Guwahati, Jul 15 : A delegation of the Kolkata chapter of American Chamber of Commerce, led by US Consul General in Kolkata Beth Payne, met Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi at his official residence here to discuss investment opportunities of American companies in the state.
Stressing the vast opportunities the state had to offer, the Chief Minister told the delegation yesterday that the Northeast as a whole was waiting to be explored and Assam in particular was the best state to come forward and invest in.
He highlighted the various sectors in which Assam has great potential and huge investment opportunities like oil and gas, including shale gas, tourism, tea, mineral based industry, agro processing, plant based medicines, education, IT enabled services, bio-diversity.
He also pointed out that under the North East Industrial Investment Policy and Promotion and the State Policy, Assam offers one of the finest industrial incentive packages and invited the members to personally visit the state and invest in.
''Come, stay and invest in Assam and you all will reap benefit from it,'' he said, adding that the big companies in the state were doing roaring businesses.
Pointing out the improving law and order situation, he said, ''The law and order situation is normal. But unfortunately the perception outside is to the contrary and that is what my Government wants to break.'' Evincing keen interest the members of the delegation said they have come here to explore the possible areas of investment. The members said they can enter into partnership with Assam and extend help in exploring markets in tourism, infrastructure hydel power projects, food processing, IT and healthcare.
The members also requested the Chief Minister to address a national meeting of the chambers in Delhi to carry the investment dialogue further.
The US Consul General was accompanied by Ambarish Dasgupta, Chairman, Amcham, Kolkata chapter, Kalyan Kar, MD, Acclaris Business Solutions and Vice Chairman, AMCHAM, Kolkata, Aniruddha Lahiri, President, the Chatterjee Group and national vice-chairman, AMCHAM India and several other top businessmen and industrialists.
