Sachin Pilot Launches WIMAX in Mizoram

wimax Aizawl, Jul 22 : The state-owned telecom operator Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) has launched WiMAX, the 4th generation wireless broadband service in Mizoram to empower the state with high speed internet.

Union Minister of State for Communications & Information Technology Sachin Pilot launched the BSNL WiMax and EDVO based internet services to provide high-speed connectivity the state.

The WiMax high speed wireless broadband connectivity aimed at rural empowerment and offers video conferencing, tele-medicine service and tele-education, besides providing other services through local administrative bodies, like payment of utility bills, issue of birth certificates, land records, on line vehicle registration among others.

In his address to the press after launching the high speed internet services, Sachin Pilot said, the Northeast region occupies an important place in the Centre’s 'scheme of things'.

''It is our endeavour to give you the best possible services available in my ministry. Other ministries also focus on this region,'' he stated.

Pilot added that the launching of high-tech internet services was a clear message that whatever facility is given to Delhi would be given to Mizoram.

In response to complaints about poor services of the BSNL, Pilot said he has instructed the BSNL officials to improve the service.

In a bid to boost the Broadband service in north east, BSNL will lay down the optical fibre cable network.

The Centre will provide all help to boost connectivity the Northeast and this is the first step in that direction, Pilot said.

In Mizoram, BSNL plans to give 45,000 new mobile connections in the next year, in addition to the existing 91,000 connections.

Rs 35 crores has been sanctioned for improvement of telecom services in Mizoram.

He also announced that by the middle of June 2010, all village councils in Mizoram will be connected with broadband internet services.

Earlier today, Pilot also inaugurated new CDMA 2000 IX mobile service switching centre of BSNL in the state capital.
