Over 30,000 troops to be inducted in Assam Rifles


New Delhi, Jan 9 : Assam Rifles, which guards the 1631 km long India-Myanmar border, will induct over 30,000 additional personnel in the next few years for increasing vigil and checking infiltration.

"We have been told to raise 26 additional battalions and we will be raising three to four of them every year," Assam Rifles Director General Karan Singh Yadava said here.

He was speaking at a press conference to mark the 175th anniversary of the force.

"Along with the raising of new battalions, we will be building a long network of roads and over a 100 helipads along the border," he added.

The new addition will take the strength of its battalions from the present 46 to 72 in next few years and the number of troops from 65,000 to close to one lakh.
