Agartala, Jan 17 : A five-day mega exhibition showcasing the development initiatives of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government in the Indian north-east began in south Tripura Sunday.
Organised by the Directorate of Advertising and Visual Publicity (DAVP) of the information and broadcasting ministry, the exhibition is being held at Jolaibari, a village in southern Tripura, 135 km south of here.
Cultural troupes from different northeastern states will focus on UPA government’s flagship programmes, including Bharat Nirman Yojana, National Rural Health Mission, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan and National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme through songs, dance and dramatic performance.
“Through photos, documents, numerous materials, models on infrastructure development involving roadways, power, drinking water and airport, a progress map was illustrated in the exposition. Various other basic needs like health care facilities have also been displayed,” said Subhashish Chanda, an official of the Press Information Bureau.
The exhibition would also highlight the success stories on Bharat Nirman Yojana and focus on the cultural and ethnic diversity of the people living in the region, he said.
“These cultural teams would also showcase the cultural milieu of the northeast region and stage productions on national integration including entertainment programmes,” Chanda added.
The exhibition is part of the five-day long Public Information Campaign on Bharat Nirman organised by different departments of the information and broadcasting ministry.
