Flood Situation In Barak Valley Improves

Silchar, Jun 23 : In Assam, the flood situation in Cachar, Hailakandi and Karimganj districts of Barak Valley has shown remarkable improvement on Thursday. In the current flood wave, over 9 lakh people of the valley have been badly affected.

The death toll in the valley in the current flood has risen to eleven with drowning of one more person by the flood water in Hailakandi district.

Meanwhile, almost all the rivers along with the flood marooned areas of the valley started to recede fast.

According to central water commission sources, the largest river of the valley, Barak is flowing about sixty five centimeters below the danger mark while Kushiara River is still flowing about ninety centimeter of the danger mark at Karimganj.

Katakhal River in Hailakandi district has been flowing well below the Danger mark.
The flood situation in three districts of the valley has shown significant improvement on Wednesday as the rivers of the valley have started receding fast much relief to the flood affected people of the valley.

Meanwhile, work to restore the sole rail link of Barak valley of Assam and its three adjoining states Tripura, Mizoram and western parts of Manipur with the rest of the country via Haflong of Northeast Frontier railway is in full swing.

Movements of trains on this section remains suspended as landslide damaged a 280-metre rail track by massive landslides.
