Too Many Locals Can be Harmful For Mizoram University

mizoram_university Aizawl, May 13 : Too many local people teaching in the Mizoram University could be detrimental to the future of the states lone central university, minister Zodintluanga warned today.

Zodintluanga’s remark was a clear admonition to the Mizo Students Union (MSU) which has just warned the University administration against violation of an agreement signed between the two parties, an agreement that gives preferences to sons of the soil in recruitment of teacher posts.

Speaking at a felicitation programme for Mizo toppers in Class 12 results 2010, organized by the MSU, the sports and youth affairs minister said that he was in support of the students organizations campaign for the entry of as many Mizo as possible into the University.

However, Zodintluanga cautioned, ''Too many Mizo teachers working in Mizoram University could degrade the quality of education in the central university.'' ''It is more important to make our university one of the most sought-after universities in the country,'' he urged.

''All the well-to-do families send their children to outside Mizoram to get better education. This is because those universities they are seeking for have world-class faculty of teachers. And those universities give top priority to quality at the time of appointing teachers,'' Zodintluanga added.

''We can also make Mizoram University one of the best universities in the country,'' he said.
