UID Cannot be Mark of Beast: Mizoram Churches

UID_prototype Aizawl, Jun 22 : The Mizoram Kohhran Hruaitute (church leaders) Committee today dispelled the notion that the Unique Identification (UID) Card was in any way related to the ''mark of the Beast'' mentioned in the Bible or that there was anything "unChristian" in being enumerated under the national Census.

In its message to the people, who have refused to get their names recorded for the National Population Registration for fear of the Biblical Beast, the committee said, ''The mark/number of the Beast mentioned in chapter 13:18 of the Book of Revelations (in the Bible), 666, is a common number to be given to all those identified by the Beast.

On the contrary, each citizen will have a unique number in the UID.''

The Beast or the anti-Christ, which the Bible prophesized will appear at the end of days, will oppose and exalt himself above all that is called God or that is worshipped (referring to 2 Thessalonians 2:4).

''In a sharp contrast, the Union government respects and gives freedom of religion to its citizens,'' the church leaders statement said. ''There is no logic behind linking the government or the UID with the Beast,'' it added.

''The census is conducted every ten years in India. This the 15th one. None of the previous censuses had been linked with anti-Christ.

Why should this census have anything to do with the anti-Christ?'' it said.

''It is a must for the Christians to obey the rulers unless the latter rule against the will of God. Therefore, the MHKC appeals all the church members to cooperate with the government in the census and the NPR,'' the statement said.

Meanwhile, the government has also made one last attempt to persuade the Beast-fearing people to enter their names in the NPR as the stipulated time for the process ends on June 30.

According to official records, there are more than 1,335 families in all the eight districts of Mizoram who believe that entering their names for the UID would mean getting identified by the Beast.

The fear stems from the Unique Identification Authority of India stipulating that no one could buy or sell property without the Unique ID card.

Incidentally, chapter 13:17 of the Revelations says that ''... no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark or the name of the Beast or the number of his name.''
